SIMBOLISME WARNA DAN ISTILAH AMERICAN DREAM DALAM NOVEL THE GREAT GATSBY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Abstract
This study aims to explore color symbolism and the concept of the American Dream in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. Using an in-depth analytical approach, this study reveals the symbolic meanings of colors such as green, white, yellow, red, blue, and grey used by Fitzgerald to reinforce the novel's main themes, including hope, luxury, moral emptiness, and the destruction of dreams. In addition, this study also highlights how the term American Dream reflects the ambition, love, and moral downfall of the Jazz Age. Symbolism in the novel, such as the green light, Valley of Ashes, and Dr. T.J. Eckleburg's eyes, show how Fitzgerald utilizes narrative elements to convey social criticism of the post-World War I society. This research is expected to provide a deeper understanding of the relationship between color symbolism and the theme of the American Dream in the social and cultural context of its time.

The Great Gatsby karya F. Scott Fitzgerald.
