Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the privacy space in boarding houses based on Islamic architectural principles, focusing on boarding house No. 10 in Kampung Jawa Lama, Lhoksumawe. The aim of this research is to evaluate the extent to which the boarding house meets Islamic privacy criteria as outlined in the Quran and Hadith. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, involving literature review, observation, data collection, and analysis of the boarding house elements related to the five main principles of Islamic architecture: house as a dwelling, place of worship, space grouping, layout and space orientation, and respect for guests. The results indicate that boarding house No. 10 has largely implemented these principles, although there are shortcomings such as inadequate wall thickness and the absence of a partition wall on the balcony. This study is expected to provide a reference for the better construction of Islamic boarding houses, particularly in the Lhoksumawe area.
